Spindrift

Spindrift is another webcomic I read that has a very in depth story and intriguing plot. It features a modern fantasy story that is free to read and it started back in 2006, at least with the first ideas. It began production in 2011 and has been published into a book that same year.

The artist and Writer goes by the name Elsa and here link to her comic is here: http://www.spindrift-comic.com/comic/02/92

It follows the story of a character named Morwenna who is caught up in the crossfire of two races. She happens to be half of each race and is alienated by both sides leaving her isolated. However fate intervenes and she is now on the run from forces that want her prisoner or worse...

The artwork is quite nice and the characters are well designed and the dialogue flows smoothly, if your looking for a good modern fantasy story i suggest checking Spindrift.

Preacher

1. Were there any prominent symbols and how were they used?

I noticed that when the came lead to waking up the Saint of Killers there was a snake on top of the coffin. In the bible Snake represents an evil that lead to Eve eating the apple and grant sentience upon mankind. Now for the sin of that sentience The snake protects the saint of killers for when evil descends upon mankind?

2. were you able to make a personal connection and what was it's nature?

I made a personal connection with jesse and how in the beginning he got drunk and spouting off people's secrets that were told in confidence. It resonates with me because I too suffer lack of faith in my religion and even tho I am not a priest people confide in me and it makes me see the world as it is. It leave many powerless to stop things from happening and a sense of injustice that the world can be so wrong and a nagging sense that there is nothing that can be done.

3. If you where to adapt this story to a different medium how and why?

I would adapt this story into a webcomic constructed from Adobe photoshop and format it into a more high fantasy way that would give it a more spiritual sense. This way be more popular with the audience as most of today's comics are done in this fashion.

JollyJack

Since Highschool when i was just doodling art and not serious about it I followed and still do this artist called Philip M. Jackson. An artist overseas he had his on site called http://www.collectedcurios.com/index.html which was his personal website. Within the website he has a section called "Sequential Art" where it follows the story of Art and his roommates and all there crazy adventures.

Following a simple four panel skit updated periodically, each strip uploaded gives a humorous take on day to day problems each with a punchline that the end.

However, ever once and a while, Jack throughs a curve ball and takes a direction for the absurd in a very hilarious way.

I recommend you check out some of his stuff if you want a good laugh.

Maus

After having read Maus i couldn't register one particular feeling. It was such a powerful and moving story of WWII and the current time of a son trying to reconnect or live in harmony with his father who lived it. Instantly Tears ran down my face when i read the last panel because i was expecting some grand finale or something jaw dropping but instead it took a different turn and not for the worst.

It just subtly faded with the rathe, Vladek, saying no more stories and was tired and at the bottom a grave showing the dates of the author's mother and father. As subtly as it was it so powerful that everything I had just read came crashing back in a flood. A jumble of memories mostly of how Vladek died anything to keep him and Anja together and then after the war Anja later committed suicide. The whiplash alone with the Past's happy ending my mind wander to her suicide later and instantly tears fell down my face.

His direction and attempt to bring nothing but the truth of what he was told was nothing short of spectacular. His work in creating different animals for each country and story play at when the mice, Jews, put on masks of Pigs, Poland, to disguise and evade capture. All the while going back and forth to the present and past.

I had a great Grandfather who served in Germany during WWII and as told as a child that he didn't want to fight or kill anyone but was forced to or they would kill him. My mother's side was a Jewish family that came to America to escape Poland. Dwelling on what it must have been like, I can't even imagine and feel so privileged to live the way I do. I highly recommend those who haven't read Maus to do so. It is a grand read that will leave you breathless.

Ravine

Stjepan Šejić is perhaps one of my most favorite comic artists of today's age. He is an artist employed at Top Cow and has worked on several titles such as Witchblade, Artifacts and recently Rat Queens.  His constant drive to develop his own stories and share them is nothing short of miraculous as he shares his triumph of a comic book he has developed in his own time: Ravine

Having Ron Marz as his editor and writer Stjepan illustrates the tale through both Adobe Photoshop and Zbrush modeling in a epic tale of a young man traveling in search of riches and a life made easy for him. However there is more then he reveals and powers within the world work their own plots and he and unlikely companions are swept up in the crossfire.

In a world of dragons, half breeds and magic, wanderers are epic warriors who harness fate and by unspoken law have power to change the course of history. No matter what happens Fate always selects this champions to work on some mysterious plan. But in today's time the new Wanderers are thrown into something that even the gods fear of what might happen when things come full circle.

Currently there are two published volumes and his work on the title has slowed but he has promised his fans and readers that he will publish this tale.

Ava's Demon

Recently a friend of mine outside of Ringling pointed me in the direction of a Webcomic called Ava's Demon, which can be found here: http://www.avasdemon.com. It's artist and writer is  Michelle Czajkowski and has devoted most of her time to creating this tale. I remember sometime ago where this started as a kickstarter and got funded but i never paid attention. However taking a second look I browsed the panels in the simple click scroll though option on the site and loved how the story unfolded in both a high fantasy and sci-fi way. Also the use of color and simple composition of each character/panel is quite unique and draws the eye to the initial focus then to its surroundings creating a dynamic mood and sense of drama in the story.

The story takes place of a girl named Ava Ire and has a nasty "demon" in her head constantly causing trouble. However its seems to be more then that and it involves revenge, love, loss and life that has yet to be with a second chance. danger lurks about in every corner and Ava is set on a path that intertwines her fate with others like her. Perhaps destiny? or is this a bigger scene then we can see only more can be revealed as the comic continues and i look eager to it. Currently the comic is on it's kickstarter for book to and the webpage updates every monday and thursday.

Superior Spiderman

As an avid Spiderman fan I have quite a collection of The Amazing Spiderman comics since i was a kid. Recently I fell out of the touch with the comics and when i returned I found that Doc Ock had taken Peter's mind and killed his old body, with Peter's mind in it died. Thus the audience was shock the arc over spiderman was over and we were turned over to a new arc called the Superior Spiderman where Doc Ock now was Spiderman and proved to show the world that he was the better spiderman.

The story was written by Dan Slott and goes through a 6 volume series where this new spiderman faces all Peter had to go through. The brilliant artwork and driven story leads to an interesting tale that is a must read!

I will admit I was pissed when this happened but as I read the arc I was quickly hooked, definitely a must have in any collection of comics a spiderman lover needs!
